Spain’s Running Of The Bulls Sees Men Gored Through His Leg

Three people were gored at Spain’s San Fermin festival where bulls were running. The crowd ran beside the six bulls through the streets of Pamplona. One of the bulls called Olivato charged 3 runners, 2 Australians and a Spaniard, pinning them against walls and barriers while trying to gore each of them. 24-year-old James Metcalfe was injured in the right thigh. He comes from Australia, from Grenfell, New South Wales.
Olivato got separated from the rest of the herd when it crashed headfirst into a nearby wall. Appearing confused, the bull then charged a certain group of runners who thought they had avoided the mad dash.
Olivato then set its sights on one J.G., an Australian aged 26 years old, continuously ramming and pinning him against the wall. As soon as the young man raised his legs to defend himself from the terrible attack, the bull thrust its horns into his left thigh. The furious bull ripped off a large piece of flesh.
The enraged bull gored the young man once again as he tried to run for safety behind a wooden fence. He was then rushed to hospital to seek medical attention. The festival spokesman, Lucinda Poole stated that the man had serious injuries on his chest, thigh and abdomen. The third man was 21 years old. He was also gored three times. Oscar Gorria, a Doctor at the Navarra hospital, stated that 2 men were gored in the legs, while 5 runners were also hospitalized for other injuries. However, there identity was not revealed. The recent run was the most vicious.
Besides the toughness of the local officials, some of the participants still get drank all through the night before taking part in the 8 a.m event. Spanish media reported that police officers at Pamplona are in search of a man who was trying to capture a selfie photo of himself using his phone right in front of the sharp horns of the bulls. The young man could be penalized up to $ 4,100 if they find he exposed other runners to danger.
Five years ago, a 27-year-old man died after he was gored in the neck in such an event. There have been 14 victims during the last century since the festival started.
