Malala Spent Her Seventeenth Birthday In Nigeria Championing #BringBackOurGirls

Pakistani girl, Malala Yousafzai, who the Taliban attempted to murder because she was advocating for girls’ education, celebrated her seventieth birthday in Nigeria. She also renewed calls to bring back the students that were abducted in April by Boko Haram.

The teenager met President Goodluck Jonathan, who guaranteed her he would free the 219 girls held by Boko Haram. A lot of people fiercely criticized the President for continuously failing to keep his promise towards rescuing the girls. The activist met organizers of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign in Abuja, the capital city Nigeria and also some families of the abducted girls.

Malala released a video on her birthday to support recent campaign #StrongerThan. The video asks, “What are you stronger than?” On Twitter, she emphasized on her support for all students everywhere they are denied the right to education.

NGO’s, celebrities and a number of leading politicians shared their birthday wishes with the teenage girl on Tweeter, and also showed their support using her preferred hash tags.
