Girl Goes Blind After Leaving Her Disposable Contacts On Her Eyes For 6 Months

A girl in Taiwan went blind after leaving disposable contacts on her eyes for six months. It is said that her eye balls were eaten by a microscopic bug. The bug is a tiny single-cell amoeba. It ate the lenses because Lian Kao’s didn’t remove to clean them.

Doctors said that the girl’s case was critical since she didn’t take time to carry out the required cleanliness. Apart from sanitizing, the lenses need to be removed whenever one is swimming or washing. It is recommended not to wear lenses for more than eight hours daily. 23-year-old Kao had kept her contact lenses in, even during swimming.
Doctors were astonished when they discovered out that a bug had eaten Kao’s eyes surface. The bug managed to breed an ideal condition that was present between the eye and the contacts. Kao was diagnosed with acanthamoeba keratitis; though rare, it is normally widespread during the summer.
Doctors spoke about the girl’s case so as to caution anyone using contacts to be careful. The condition is not easily noticed, however; the wearer will only notice it at an advanced stage. It normally leads to red, irritated eyes when the case is too late to handle.
