Pregnant Mother Delivers A Baby With Static Hair After Being Struck By Lightning

Kimberly Gordon is a little girl who escaped death narrowly while in her mothers stomach. The little girl was delivered by emergency CS a year ago after lighting struck her mother in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Not only did the one-year-old survive electrical jolt, but also has static hair. Her father, Ian Gordon says that it is a miracle Kimberly is alive.

It was July 4 last year, when Gordon and his thirty-eight weeks pregnant girlfriend, Kendra Villanueva were struck by lightning while watching Independence Day fireworks.

Reports say that the thunderbolt travelled through Gordon’s ear then to Villaneuva’s body and later leaving through her thumb. Ryan Perry, a staff of the Albuquerque Fire Department, said Gordon and Villaneuva were confused and dazed as they looked at them. They were quickly taken to the University of New Mexico hospital, where she was induced and delivered baby Kimberly 2 weeks to her due date. One year later, the little girl still has neurological damage,as a result, of a lightning strike. She can’t digest food well, crawl or sit.

The Doctors say that the case is unusual. Thus, they can’t tell when Kimberley may start talking or walking. Villanueva is grateful of the miracle despite the small challenges. Reports say that the couple was lucky, as there are only 11 cases on record where pregnant women were struck by lighting whereby half of the newborns survived.

There have been similar cases around the world. Ohio Kelly Lough was also struck in April 2012 as she was entering into her husband’s car. Doctors say that the rubber sole shoes she wore saved her life and the baby’s life too.
