Man Dies After New York Police Put Him In Choke Hold

Eric Garner, 43, and also the father of 6 collapsed and died after a New York police officer placed him in a choke hold. The deceased was captured on video arguing with police officers in Tompkinsville, Staten Island. He was accused of selling untaxed cigarettes.
Later the officers surrounded Garner, and when he refused to be arrested, one officer placed him in a choke hold and finally wrestled him to the ground. Before his death, Garner was shouting saying that he couldn’t breathe as the officer held him on the pavement.
Bill de Blasio, New York Mayor released a statement after Ganers’ death. Blassio also sent his condolence message to Garners family. He said that they were responsible for the safety of every New Yorker, including when people are in New York police custody. The Mayor said that him, and the Police Commissioner take that responsibility seriously.
He said they were harnessing every resource available to ensure a thorough investigation of the tragic incidence. New York police commissioner told a news conference that choke holds were not allowed by the New York City Police Department.
